Coach Short enters his 11th year as head coach at Olney Central for the 2018-19 season. His teams have averaged over 30 wins a year in his tenure with an overall record of 319-226-1.
Twenty-eight student-athletes have been named NJCAA Academic All-American in coach Short's nine years as head coach. The 2018 squad had 9 Academic All-Americans; half of the team. Additionally, every team he has coached has been an NJCAA Academic All-American Team, carrying at least a 3.0 team GPA. The 2018 squad had a team GPA of 3.46.
Thirty former players have moved on to four-year schools on softball scholarships in the past 10 years, ranging from NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA.
Coach Short is entering his 13th year of teaching at Olney Central in the fall of 2018. He earned his master's degree in molecular biology at Eastern Illinois University. His course load includes general biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, as well as environmental biology.
